According to the fFood and Drug Administration, all contact lenses are regulated medical devices that must have a prescription and proper fitting by an eye care professional.  Wearing cosmetic contact lenses without a proper eye exam can lead to a blinding infection, not just pink eye, but an ulcer on the cornea resulting in permanent damage to vision.

All contact lenses, including lenses without correction, must receive marketing clearance or approval before being sold in the USA.  Any over-the-counter or on-line sales are in violation of the law.  In 2005, a Federal law was passed clsssifying all contact lenses as medical devices and restricted their distribution to licensed eye-care professionals.

Illegal sale of contacts can result in penalties of up to $11,000 per violation.  If you get contact lenses without goint through a doctor, you will seriously be risking your vision for the rest of your  life.

Don't be taken in by claims tht the lenses are cleared and approved by the FDA.  ALL lenses must be approved, but they cannot be distributed by those that are not eye doctors.  Be safe, not sorry.
